Last month, I went to Mexico City with my very good friend (and perfect tour guide) Alejandra. The trip was very last minute. I booked my ticket the night before left.
I arrived in Mexico City on Thursday, April 29 at midnight. After freshening up in the airport bathroom, Alejandra and her wonderful friend James picked me up from the airport and we went straight to a beautiful club. The neighborhood reminded me of a mini-Vegas, filled with designer stores and water features. After the club we went to two different restaurants (Alejandra was very hungry) for traditional Mexican tacos. Sooo good!
Friday we slept until 11am (much needed after our 4am bedtime the night before). After a delicious soy latte from Starbucks (I know, I know), we headed for the pyramids. About one hour outside the city, the pyramids were the perfect afternoon activity. We walked throughout the historic area and even climbed to the very top.
Friday evening we went to Alejandra’s favorite restaurant for a glass of wine. We then met up with her parents, who treated us to the MOST AMAZING meal at a gorgeous seafood restaurant in the Hollywood area of Mexico City. The evening was absolutely perfect.
Saturday we traveled a few hours outside of the city to Alejandra’s friend Daniella’s wedding. Located in a charming, garden town, the setting was gorgeous. We ate amazing food and danced the night away.
Sunday we drove back to the city, met up with her parents and cousins, and dined at the largest restaurant in Mexico City. It seats over 3,000 people and serves delicious Mexican cuisine. Sunday night, Alejandra and I walked back to her favorite restaurant where we chatted the night away.
I didn’t want the trip to end. From start to finish, it was absolutely amazing. The Mestas treated me like royalty. All of Alejandra’s friends were so welcoming and friendly. I could not imagine a better trip to one of my best friend’s home towns. I can’t wait to go back!
